CHA Taesuh (Research Fellow, Institute of National Interests, CAU) This paper aims to examine the implications of Donald Trump’s presidential election victory with regard to the global political economic system, and the foreign policy direction of the new administration in the United States. To this end, by analyzing the continuity and changes in post-Cold War US grand strategy, this paper reveals that the Trump administration will deploy a new Jacksonian foreign policy that deviates from the existing liberal consensus. Furthermore, this paper predicts the impact of Trump’s foreign policy on Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula, and, in conclusion, discusses the historical significance of Trump’s election victory on the future of the liberal world order as well as its implications with regard to Korea’s national strategy.
